Titanic Honour and Glory are delighted to have acquired a magnificent 1:144th scale model of the bow section of the Titanic wreck. The model was scratchbuilt entirely by hand by Gloucestershire model maker Marko Mudryj. Marko spent 300 hours over a four month period creating the masterpiece which has recently become part of the exhibition and gone on display in our touring exhibition.
The model captures the bow section of the wreck as she appeared in 1985 when Dr. Robert D. Ballard discovered the Titanic in the North Atlantic Ocean. The detail on the model is absolutely incredible capturing every detail on the wreck, from the collision damage, crows nest, anchors, bridge, promenade deck areas to the lifeboat davits and boilers.
During the construction of the model, Marko and I were in constant contact where he would reveal some interesting findings on the wreck, many of which were never noticed before when viewing videos and reading the many literature available on the subject. Marko couldn't believe the way metal had twisted this way and that way and the violent sinking the Titanic had endured during her descent to the bottom of the atlantic. So much so is the detail to this model, Marko has been nominated for a top award by one of the Titanic model makers websites, which we are delighted about.
We have included pictures of the model both in construction and the finished model which is currently on display in the exhibition. The exciting news is that over the past few months Marko has been working on the stern section of the wreck which is being scratchbuilt in the same scale as the bow section model. The stern model will complement the bow section model in the exhibition, and with both models our aims are to bring the human story of the Titanic to life as they will both feature in our in memoriam gallery of the exhibition as tribute to all those who were lost and saved on board the Titanic.
There will be pictures of the stern section coming soon to the website, as well as behind the scenes on creating the Titanic wreck models with modelmaker Marko Mudryj in our members area of the website. Below is a magnificent mosaic of the bow section of the wreck model created by Marko.
